2023 Youth Sailing World Champions crowned in Buzios, Brazil

Poland and France dominate the skiff fleets in Buzios, Brazil at the Youth World Sailing World Championships. 

Brazil always promised to host a World Class Youth World Championship event in 2023 and boy did they deliver. From Opening to Closing ceremony and the incredible varied conditions providing for fantastic racing in between, the championships was a true test of sailing skill and peak competition. The Youth World Championships is a long standing, unique event where one team in each category from each country competes in an 'Olympic style' racing format. The camaraderie and life long friendship that this event provides is incredibly special, and many of the sailors competing at this event will go on to become future champions in sailing.

29er Female

Polish teammates Ewa Lewandowska and Julia Maria Zmudzinska dominated the female skiff fleet throughout the championships, winning the first five races. Despite no racing taking place on the final day, they had already done enough to secure the Gold Medal. Sarah Jannin and Fleur Babin of France sailed a storming second half of the regatta, winning four of the final five races to take home the Silver medal, with sisters Boroka and Szonja Feher (Hungary) claming the Bronze by four points. 

29er Male/Mixed

29er Eurocup Champions Hugo Revil and Karl Devaux sealed the deal with a bang, winning the final race of the championships to secure the Gold medal for France by 16 points. 29er Eurocup final winners Italians Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi won a race on the final day, taking the Silver Medal, with 2023 European Champions, Irish team Ben O'Shaughnessy and Ethan Spain clinching the Bronze.
